feasibility study for
the location of the new airport
project data:
Bavaro International Airport
Altagracia, Dominican Republic
2019 - 2024
partnership with Eurocontrol Apave Group

description:
The Abrisa Group, a leading diversified business group in the Dominican Republic, planned the construction and management of a new private airport to serve the tourist area of Playa Bávaro and its surroundings. To develop the required studies and projects, Eurocontrol was engaged and Leadin Aviation Consulting was appointed to lead the initial airport planning studies, including the airport location assessment and feasibility study.

After completing the first stage, which included the feasibility study and the Master Plan, Phase 2 began. This phase focused on preparing the complete engineering plans needed to start construction. During Phase 2, the works were led and coordinated at project level, including stakeholder management and close coordination with the client. Phase 2 was interrupted before completion due to a client decision unrelated to the project itself.

The feasibility study supported the definition of the optimal airport solution, and the Master Plan for the New Bávaro International Airport was developed, establishing the foundations for long-term development. This assignment laid the technical and strategic basis for the project, providing a solid, investment-ready planning framework that supported informed decision-making, regulatory engagement, and the long-term viability of a new private airport serving one of the Dominican Republic’s most important tourist regions.
